【人生を祝う会】English follows 

今週末　5月の末に亡くなったＲＵＴＨの会がBuffalo, NYであります

Ｒｕｔｈは私がアメリカに留学中知り合った女性で、ユーモアの大切さを教えてくれた人です。

Funeral お葬式ではなく、Celebration of her life （彼女の人生を祝う会）です。

 

素敵な呼び方だと思いませんか？

 

約20年前　ＲＵＴＨの旦那さんが亡くなったとき、アメリカに住んでいた私たちは初めて「人生を祝う会」に出席しました。

 

式に出席してびっくりしました。黒のドレスを着てる人は一人もいなくて、姪っ子当たる方は、赤いドレスを着ていたのです。

Ruth と　Johnには子供がいなかったので、30代の甥っ子さんが　スピーチをされました。

Ｊｏｈｎがどんなに素晴らしい人生を送ったか。

音楽　芸術を愛し、海外旅行にも行き　病気になってもユーモアを忘れなかったエピソードなどを話してくれました

 

会の後は自宅に行き、軽い食事をしながら、みんなでＪｏｈｎとの楽しい思い出を話したのを覚えています。

 

亡くなった人を悲しむのではなく、その人の人生を祝う　　

素敵な考え方だと思いました。

 

 

This weekend the memorial service will be held in Buffalo for Ruth who passed away in the end of May.  

 

It is not called funeral but it is called “celebration of her life “

 

I met Ruth when I was studying in American university.  She is like mother to me. 

 

About 20 years ago  Ruth’s husband John passed away. We were   living in North Carolina then so we were able to attend his memorial service.  

I  was surprised because there was no one wearing a black dress and his niece was wearing a red dress.

 

Ruth and John had no children so their nephew made a speech.  

He talked about what a great life  John had;  his love for music  art, trips abroad, and his great sense of humor.  

 

 It was celebration of his life.  

 

After the service we all went to Ruth’s apartment and we ate some food,talking about good time we had with John.

 

Instead of moaning, we celebrate their  life and remember the good time we had together.  

What a wonderful idea.
